This month, Triple C is connecting Ohio higher education and community partners around student basic needs, civic engagement, leadership development, and opportunities to strengthen campus-community partnerships.
Student Basic Needs | Launching the Network
Triple C and Swipe Out Hunger invite campus and community partners to join the first Student Basic Needs Network (SBNN) meeting of the academic year on October 20. Formerly the Hunger Free Campus Coalition, the Network expands collaboration to address students’ basic needs, from food and housing to transportation, health, and financial wellness.
Election Protection Opportunities for Member Campuses
Triple C has received funding from Ohio Voice to support the Ohio Voter Rights Coalition’s Election Protection efforts. Member campuses can participate by connecting students with opportunities to serve as Election Day monitors and help fellow voters navigate the voting process.
Propel Ohio | Preparing the Next Generation of Civic Leaders
Triple C brought student leaders and campus administrators together at Bowling Green State University on October 2 for Propel Ohio: America at 250 — Preparing the Next Generation of Civic Leaders. The statewide summit created opportunities for connection, dialogue, and reflection on how the next generation can help shape Ohio’s future.
Remembrance Into Action | 9/11 Day of Service
Three Ohio campus partners—Marietta College, the University of Akron, and Denison University—honored the 25th anniversary of 9/11 through service projects supporting veterans, student basic needs, food security, and local communities. Together, the campuses engaged 841 volunteers who contributed 683 hours of service, demonstrating the impact of campus-community partnerships.
Connecting Through The Big Table
Triple C joined higher education professionals, students, and community partners for The Big Table to share resources and explore ways to better support Ohio college students’ basic needs. Thank you to the Ohio Association of Community Colleges for hosting this important conversation.
Civic Engagement Opportunities & Resources
As Election Day approaches, Triple C is sharing resources to help campuses support informed civic participation. Ohio campuses can request free, nonpartisan printed voter guides from guides.vote, promote early voting through Vote Early Day on October 24, and explore practical voter engagement strategies through Nonprofit VOTE’s #VoteReady webinar. The newsletter also highlights CivxNow’s 2026 State Policy Scan, which examines trends in K–12 civic education across the country.
Conference & Funding Opportunities
Triple C invites Ohio colleges and universities to submit proposals for the 2027 Ohio Peace and Conflict Studies Network (OPCSN) Conference, focused on strengthening democracy through civic engagement and peacebuilding. Additional opportunities include ServeOhio’s FY27 Ohio AmeriCorps Competitive Operational Grants, the National Student Vote Summit, and Catalyst, an interdisciplinary journal featuring service-learning and community engagement.
Partner Opportunities & News You Can Use
This month’s partner updates include Wittenberg University’s Hagen Center donation drive supporting Springfield’s Haitian community and new research and commentary on civic education, student political engagement, and the role of colleges in strengthening civic participation.
